Liven Up Your Morning Coffee With Flavoured Syrups   by Scott James

Most of us are well set into a routine – wake up, get ready for work, put coffee in, drive to work, work, drive home, eat and relax. It’s great to have a routine, but it can make life stale if done the same all the time. So what can you do to spice things up? Try adding spice! Chai spice perhaps, to your morning coffee. Or maybe Hazelnut? Gingerbread? Brown Sugar Cinnamon? Peppermint? The choices are nearly limitless when you start looking at flavoured syrups.

The flavoured syrups can be used in your morning coffee in lieu of regular white sugar, but where they really shine is Lattes. Steamed milk enhances and brings out the true taste of flavoured syrups, entirely changing your morning coffee from plain to flavourful. Sugar Free options are also available (though not typically in all flavours) that can give you the sweetness you need in your coffee, without the heavy calories. This makes them perfect for those who need to watch their sugar intake, like diabetics or just those looking to be more health conscious.

The great thing about most of the syrups is that they’re not exclusively for coffees and Lattes. With a robust taste, they can be used in Italian Sodas, Martinis, Smoothies, Protein Shakes and Iced Teas. No longer will you need to visit a coffee shop and shell out $5 for a Smoothie or Italian Soda, when with a few syrups you can make your own for under a dollar. Flavouring syrups allow you to make high end drinks – just like the coffee shops – for your friends and guests.

A personal favourite of mine is the “Sugar-Free Peppermint Latte”, and can be made as follows:

Begin by making 2 shots of espresso, then add it to your mug with 1 oz of Sugar Free Peppermint Syrup (4 pumps with the syrup pump). Steam 6 oz of milk and pour into the mug, ensuring it mixes thoroughly. Enjoy!

Most people will look into 3-4 flavours to start, which can be rotated on a daily basis so that they can get a good idea of what kind of flavours they like in their coffee. A typical bottle is 750mL and will contain approximately 25 servings, giving you about a month supply per bottle (or less if you’re a heavier coffee drinker). Most people like the syrups so much they’ll re-order their favourite and a couple new ones to try. With over 50 different flavours, you have nearly 4 years with of syrups to try.
