Read This Well Before You Even Consider Creating A WordPress Blog Copy
I’m just going to throw this idea out there for you. I honestly believe that knowing how to clone a wordpress blog is one of the most essential and important skills that you can have as an Internet Marketer. I’m not kidding when I say that as well. You see, someone like myself who has a large portfolio of websites, we don’t have the time to simply create new sites from the ground up. That’s not an option, it is just downright time consuming and not constructive use of time. Anything that can even save you so much as a few mere minutes can, if anything, be your edge when it comes to competing in this market, and by this, I mean getting blogs and websites up and running as fast as humanly possible.
When creating your perfect WordPress blog that you will be cloning, you will need to consider above all else what you need to include in the way of plugins. Be sure at this point not to over inflate your an installation, instead only include the functionality that you need. Consider how you are going to track your traffic, social media plugins, membership plugins, and anything else that you might use in at least one in three blogs. Personally, I include an Analytics plugin, a link shortener, an SEO plugin, and an XML sitemaps plugin at bare minimum. You can be as creative as you like here, but be sure to include what you need.
When it comes to themes, I personally upload all of the themes that I own, so that selecting a theme is much easier when the blog has been deployed. The themes that I have installed vary from sales letter and squeeze page themes, to video based themes, and even your standard blog style themes. The reason that I do this is so that I can test all of the themes that I might consider using as fast as possible, and get up and running as fast as possible. I highly recommend that you do the same. If you can remove the need to upload anything more than you need to once the blog has been deployed, then you are going to save a huge amount of time at the end of the day.
Now, the important part – the part when you get all technical. When it comes to how to clone a wordpress blog, there are many ways that you can do this. You can do it the hard way doing it manually, or you can do it the easy way using scripts and plugins. On that note, I absolutely do not recommend using a WordPress plugin to clone a WordPress installation, as this relies on the WordPress platform to get the job done. This is buggy, and I have never had success cloning a real blog that is of an average blog size. I know that many will disagree with me, but I am just stating it how I have seen it on all of the major hosts. Standalone scripts work best, and always will. At the end of the day however, the sooner that you learn how this is done, the sooner you can be on your way to making better use of your time.
